It has been an awesome 4 weeks of the second semester of the 2016-2017 school year. Now it’s time to buckle down even more to prepare for our upcoming state testing that will take place April 3– May 5, 2017. We will start our morning tutoring the week of February 13th. Students will receive a letter if they qualify for the morning tutoring program. We are shifting our instructional
focus to include more small group individualized instruction in all grade-levels. We will continue to monitor our instructional practices to meet the needs of all of our students. We will also have a parent meeting for 5th grade parents on February 16, 2017 to discuss online testing for 5th grade students. Please mark you calendars and letters will sent home with more details regarding time and location. Students will be out of school on February 27th – March 3rd for the Mardi Gras holiday break. It’s imperative that while your child is on Mardi Gras break, to continue to keep them actively engaged in reading and math. Let your child practice their math fluency with addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. Encourage your child to read a book to you every night. These helpful tips will continue to be instilled in them while they are on this week-long break to show the importance of reading and math. Please remember that one of the most important
things you can do for your child is to support the love of reading. Students are encouraged to log into their Clever accounts to access their iReady reading and math lessons and 5th grade students are encouraged to go to typing.com. The best way to get to the Clever accounts is to go to http://www.jpschools.org and look on the left hand side of the page. The username and password information for students will be their lunch numbers. I would like to send a special thanks to the parents that have donated money to support Dollars for Scholars. We will continue fundraising throughout the month of February. Woodland West will be hosting our 1st Multicultural Heritage Festival Family Night on Thursday, February 16, at 6 pm in our cafeteria. We look forward to seeing you there.
Interim reports will go home on Friday, February 17, 2016. Please review the interim report with your child, sign it, and return it to your child’s homeroom teacher. Parent- Teacher Conferences will be on Monday, February 20, 2017. This is a student holiday and the conferences will be held from 4 pm until 7 pm, so expect a phone call from your child’s teacher to schedule appointment times. I am looking forward to all these fun and exciting events. With your support, I know that we will have a successful year of learning. Have a happy and safe Mardi Gras.
